Transport

With economic, social and environmental factors increasing the importance of transport to the Scottish economy, and the Scottish Executive placing a greater emphasis on improving transport and infrastructure, Brodies intends to use its expertise in this area to assist our clients as they deal with the challenges this brings.

Brodies has significant expertise in public transport. We've acted for Lothian Buses on competition and other aspects of public transport initiatives in connection with Transport Initiatives Edinburgh's (TIE) plans to develop the Edinburgh tram lines and advised SESTRAN on the set up of their innovative 'one ticket' travel scheme.

Our work for the Strategic Rail Authority in 2004, advising on the new ScotRail franchise, which was procured on behalf of the Scottish Executive by the SRA, is undoubtedly one of the most high profile and high value transactions undertaken by the Executive to date.

With public law specialists, we've advised in relation to private transport bills including the Waverley Railway (Scotland) Bill, the Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine Railway and Linked Improvements Act 2004 and the Edinburgh Tram (Line One) and (Line Two) Bills.

Our litigation department is home to one of Scotland's most renowned shipping experts, who has been involved in much of Scotland's significant shipping and transport litigation in recent years and we've a growing involvement in shipping finance, both in the merchant, fishing and oil related sectors.
