Media & Broadcasting

Defamation

We regularly manage media issues involving potential or actual defamation on behalf of broadcasters, including Channel 4, and private and public limited companies. Recent cases include advice in relation to documentary and drama broadcasts, website defamation and defamation by spoken word.

Contempt of Court

We use our considerable experience of both criminal and civil law to provide a pre-emptive and diagnositic service to clients. We provide advice in a Scottish context to Channel 4 and independent production companies regarding programmes prior to broadcast and involving issues during the production and post production period. Our experience includes programmes involving miscarriages of justice, the filming of prisoners and issues regarding the identification of children.

Broadcasting Standards

We regularly advise on the impact of the Broadcasting Acts, the ITC and BSC Codes along with the forthcoming new regulatory regime.

Content Regulation

We are only too aware of the importance of anticipating issues arising out of contempt of court, data protection, freedom of information, the European Convention on Human Rights and the impact of the Broadcasting Acts, ITC and BSC Codes. An eclectic litigation practice allows us to consider all aspects of broadcast and publication and identify any potential pitfalls for our clients.
