Culture
OUR CULTURE
Why Brodies?
Brodies continues to be guided by two key principles - being the commercial law firm our clients want us to be and growing in Scotland with a business culture others will respect and admire.
We are a firm going from strength to strength, embracing change to deliver the highest quality legal services to many of the country's best known corporate and financial institutions as well as to a range of government departments, public authorities and private business interests. Our widespread growth is evident in attracting top-rated lawyers from around the UK.
We believe in a strong, collegiate culture at Brodies. We are resolutely Scottish with an international perspective and delivery capability, regularly supporting the international strategies of our clients - with offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, the firm is a major presence in the Scottish market. Our clients benefit from a wide range of experience and expertise in both the East and West of Scotland, however we still don't see the need to lay down square footage in the Square Mile - we will leave that to our closest competitors and continue on a path that supports our claim to be a pre-eminent Scottish law firm.
Our values and behaviours
We are committed to promoting and supporting a series of values to guide our working behaviour in order to achieve the high standards of service we are committed to providing to our clients. These can be summarised as follows:
- We are professional, innovative, creative and are committed to continuous improvement both as individuals and as a firm
- We work as a team
- Quality, integrity and trust are the foundations of our business
- We treat our colleagues and clients with respect
- We want our people to derive a sense of achievement from the work they do
Striving for excellence
In many disciplines we are home to some of the country's leading experts, working alongside some of the best UK clients on the highest profile deals and cases.
Brodies has responded to client demands for new specialists and expertise. Our continued focus on developing our people is key not only to retention of talent but also to delivering premium quality client service. Highly advanced leadership skills and behaviours training has been developed. This has led to enhanced partnership leadership training that will feed into our recruitment programmes, appraisal process, promotion criteria and training schemes.
The firm is rated "Top Tier" in 9 key practice areas in the leading legal directories and is recognised as a market leader, regularly shortlisted for a number of leading industry awards.
Recruiting to retain
At Brodies we understand that the growth of our people is key to the growth of our business - we recruit to retain, and personal progression is fundamental to this.
Our people are central to our business and in this tight labour market for top-quality lawyers, recruiting, rewarding
and developing our legal resource is always at the top of our agenda. We continue to invest heavily in staff and
developing our HR strategies.
At Brodies you can expect to work in an environment that is challenging and rewarding. Recruiting, retaining and training the best legal talent is fundamental to the success of our business. We do not seek to hire a 'typical' Brodies lawyer but instead place a huge amount of importance in securing people who clearly demonstrate great potential for the future.
A supportive environment
We understand that making the transition can often be a daunting process, and will do what we can to make this easier for you. Guidance is always at hand and we operate in a fully supportive environment across all disciplines. As our firm continues to go from strength to strength we want you to grow with us and will make sure that you are given every opportunity to build on your own personal success and make a valuable contribution to the continued success of the firm.
Working at Brodies means working in a dynamic and progressive firm where you can build your career through a transparent, uncluttered route.
Diversity
Brodies LLP is an equal opportunities employer, with a strong commitment to managing diversity. We have a responsibility to reflect the increasingly diverse community we operate in, therefore we must manage diversity in a way which is positive and beneficial to both the company and our employees. The purpose of our diversity policy is to develop a common understanding of what diversity means at Brodies and to establish a clear set of objectives which enable us to meet our aspirations.
